I’m often asked whether I consider myself a speech-language pathologist or a behavior analyst. The answer is both.

Speech-language pathology is the science of communication. Applied Behavior Analysis is the science of learning. To me, they are not competing disciplines. They are complementary sciences that, when thoughtfully integrated, can create meaningful opportunities for children who struggle to communicate.

Throughout my career, I have been especially passionate about Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and supporting children who are non-speaking or minimally speaking. My goal has never been simply to help a child use a device. It’s to help them communicate what matters, participate more fully in their world, and build genuine connections with the people around them.

I believe great therapy is both compassionate and analytical. It requires creativity, curiosity, and a willingness to continually ask, “How can we teach this child more effectively?” Every child learns differently, and I enjoy solving that puzzle alongside families, therapists, teachers, and behavior teams.

One of the greatest privileges of my work has been helping bridge the gap between speech-language pathology and ABA. I have spent much of my career collaborating across disciplines, training professionals, and developing practical strategies that allow communication and learning to work hand in hand rather than separately.

While I’m proud of the degrees and certifications I’ve earned, what matters most to me is earning the trust of the families and professionals who invite me to be part of their child’s journey. Every child has something important to say. My role is simply to help them find the most effective way to say it.
